Sick Days

My boys have been sick, so it was just a matter of time until I caught the cold... But that doesn't make me feel any less angry about catching it!  Somehow I am always convinced that my immune system will never be defeated.  How could I be so smug?

Because I am a stay-at-home mom, you may think that when I get sick it's no big deal - that I can just take it easy and have a "vacation day" easily...

WRONG-O!  The way I see it, I will never truly get a vacation day again (until the kids are grown up, maybe).  And my work day doesn't end at 5.  It ends when Little J decides it does!  Jared is extremely helpful when he's home, which I am beyond thankful for.  But when he's at work and I'm too sick to move... things become a little overwhelming.

tug-o-war
Right now, for example... Leia is running at full speed from room to room dragging an empty bucket in her mouth and growling as it bangs hollowly against the floor.  Zooey is so frightened by the noise that she is curled up in a little ball in my lap.  And Little J is squawking in his playpen with delight at the chaos.  And amid all the racket I think my inflated sinuses just floated away into the sky.

mommy, stop sneezing!
The babe has some residual symptoms from the cold he had last week, so I'm still wiping his nose in addition to my own (and in addition to wiping up the puppy accidents on the kitchen rug).  Being a mommy is extraordinarily rewarding, but it is certainly not glamorous.

I never wanted a career other than being a mom, but I'm guessing the next closest thing would have been nursing.  Or maybe zookeeping? Or garbage collecting?

I like to think that I have several "side-careers" - one as an interior decorator.  I plan on writing a post about decorating above the kitchen cabinets... but my eyes are throbbing.  And I can hear Leia ripping the trim off of the kitchen rug.  J just went down for a nap, so I'm going to snuggle into the couch and snooze my way through an episode of Desperate Housewives.

This can wait until later :)
