Sleepy Days

Some days I am so focused on getting the babe dressed and feeding the dogs and cleaning the kitchen and making dinner and house-training the puppy and changing diapers and writing blogs... that I forget to get dressed myself.  Or shower.  Or eat breakfast.  I never realized how difficult it would be to take care of myself once I had so many other creatures (and a house) to care for.  I love what I do, don't get me wrong... it's just that sometimes I look in the mirror and literally GASP at what I see in the reflection.  And then I remind myself that that's ok...

My job is much much more important than my appearance right now.  On days like today, when I feel really really gross, I do something intentional:   I leave Little J in his jammies.  We have a day-long slumber party and watch entire seasons of Parks and Rec while we play on the floor and take intermittent naps.

Most days I have a little "me" time during naptime... during which I try to work on small projects around the house that have stacked up.  Wash the baby bottles.  Wipe the kitchen counters.  Clean up the pile of LifeSaver wrappers that have accumulated on the coffee table...  And sometimes, finish up half-done craft projects.

A few weeks ago, I finished this one:

I found an unfinished wooden tray at Goodwill - painted it and attached a plastic placemat. (You may recognize this item from a previous post: Top Thrift Store Finds).

Today I spent my free-time finishing another similar project: A Burlap-Lined Tray

This little tray was another $.99 find at Goodwill (starting to figure out where I do most of my shopping??).  It was already stained a lovely color, but I found it to be a little plain - and it had a major flaw...

Exposed staples!!!  I nearly gave my coffee table a massive laceration!  I also gave my finger a pretty good scratch... This is one of the biggest risks of buying used (donated) items.  But don't worry, I hammered these pokies away with a spoon (my tool of choice) so they are no longer sharp or exposed!

Next I took the leftovers from a previous project (Burlap Purse) and adhered them to the inside of my little tray.  I love burlap (have you guessed?) and I love the rustic twist it gives when used in decorating.

Add a candle or some flowers and it's done!

Now back to Netflix...
